Managing laundry services across HKUST’s residential halls was once a hassle for students. The old system required prepayments onto student cards, a process that was inconvenient and inflexible, often leaving students scrambling to top up credits at hall counters. With hundreds of residents relying on shared washers and dryers, HKUST needed a more efficient, user-friendly solution. In 2023, Beautitag Limited stepped in to overhaul the laundry control and payment system, aiming to bring convenience and flexibility to campus life.

Beautitag designed and deployed an updated laundry payment system, launched in 2023, that eliminated the need for prepaid student cards. Students can now purchase laundry tickets directly through a web portal or mobile app, accessible anytime, anywhere. The system supports multiple payment methods, including Credit Cards (Visa/Master), WeChat Pay, Alipay, and FPS, catering to the diverse preferences of HKUST’s student body. Integrated with network QR Code Reader, the solution ensures seamless transactions and real-time access to laundry services across all halls.

The implementation was a collaborative triumph. Beautitag worked with HKUST’s Student Housing and Residential Life Office (SHRLO) to integrate the new system with existing laundry infrastructure, replacing outdated payment workflows. The team developed a responsive web interface (https://laundry.ust.hk/ldr/app) and mobile app, tested rigorously to handle peak usage in halls like UG Hall IX and GGT. Detailed user manuals and support ensured students could adopt the system effortlessly, with payment processing secured for reliability and trust.

The revamped system has transformed the laundry experience at HKUST. Students now enjoy instant, flexible payments, bypassing the inconvenience of prepayments and card top-ups. Usage has become more efficient, with fewer delays at machines and broader payment options enhancing accessibility.
