In 2021, HKUST’s alumni community faced a challenge: their existing Alumni eCard system was outdated, limiting their ability to engage with university services efficiently. Alumni needed a seamless way to access benefits like library services, sports facilities, and exclusive discounts, but the old platform lacked the flexibility and convenience modern users expect. Recognizing this, HKUST turned to Beautitag Limited to revamp the mobile application, aiming to create a robust digital identity solution that would enhance alumni engagement.
Beautitag delivered a completely overhauled HKUST Alumni mobile app, launched in 2021, transforming how alumni interact with their alma mater. The revamped app introduced a streamlined eCard system, enabling alumni to obtain their digital identity via their @alumni or @connect.ust.hk email accounts. Key features included QR code-based access to sports venues and libraries, online facility booking, event registration, and coupon redemption for campus offers—all accessible through a single, intuitive interface available on iOS and Android.
The redevelopment process was meticulous. Beautitag collaborated with HKUST’s Development and Alumni Office to ensure compatibility with existing systems while upgrading security and usability. The team addressed user pain points—like frequent logins—by optimizing the app for iOS 10+ and Android 6+, with fallbacks for manual APK downloads. Rigorous testing ensured the app could handle diverse use cases, from large event registrations to real-time eCard verification at campus entry points.
The impact was immediate and transformative. Post-revamp, alumni reported a smoother, faster experience, with the app simplifying access to services like library eCards (Reader’s and Borrower’s Cards) and sports facilities. Engagement soared as alumni used the app to redeem discounts from alumni entrepreneurs and register for events effortlessly. Beautitag’s solution not only modernized HKUST’s alumni ecosystem but also strengthened community ties, proving the power of innovative software in fostering lifelong connections.
